Alternative Learning Programs

-
Alternative education is designed for students who are at-risk of educational failure. Instruction is designed to meet individual student learning styles as well as their social and emotional needs. Teachers build connections with students and focus on vocational and career skills, including independent study options.
Faculty and staff work continually to assist students who, for a variety of reasons, may struggle in traditional school environments to develop positive attitudes toward learning, to actively participate in learning, and to become responsible, productive members of an ever-changing world.
State approved Alternative Programs are governed by these statutes:
Graduation Incentives Criteria used to identify at-risk students (Minnesota Statutes, section 124D.68).Continual Learning Plan (CLP) developed annually for each student to outline the steps necessary for grade promotion and/or graduation (Minnesota Statutes, section 124D.128, Subdivision 3).
Information to students and families regarding alternative education options (Minnesota Statutes, section 124D.68, Subdivision 6).

Distance Learning
North Branch Area Public Schools Distance Learning Program offers students a curriculum similar to that of the regular education student in virtually all ways except the delivery of the educational program. Instead of working all day, every day, with a teacher in the same room, Distance Learning students and their parents work together with a teacher to develop an individual learning plan for each student.
